KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans will get what is promised to them, including state rights and the 40% net revenue owed, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said this is the assurance given by the Federal Government, more so now that Sabah’s election is over and a new state government has been formed.
“On the 40% state revenue, we will try to set a technical meeting by mid-January to discuss on the parameters of this 40%, payment mechanisms and other matters,” he said, adding that the federal government is also committed to solving water, electricity and road issues in Sabah.
Anwar said this in his speech during a Sentuhan Madani programme here on Saturday (Dec 6).
He said he cannot say that the payments would be made in January but the parameter of this amount must be mutually agreed upon, soon, adding that this is not a delaying technique but the federal Cabinet has four vacancies to fill, including the latest left by Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said this proves that the federal government wants to keep its word of returning state rights and addressing pressing issues as soon as possible.
“There is no time to take a break after the Sabah election, it is time to work and deliver, to meet the people and to break the perception that politicians only make empty election promises,” Anwar said.
He said the federal government will look into its financial capability and try its best to allocate more funding to address water, electricity and road woes in rural areas within these two months.
He said the federal Cabinet has decided to exempt businesses earning RM500,000 and below from implementing the e-invoice, but urged big companies to not delay.
He said the federal government earlier allocated RM2bil to refund businesses and taxpayers of overpaid taxes but has decided to add on another RM2bil, after listening to grouses from the ground.
