THE kindness shown by a 27-year-old woman from China’s Yunnan province moved many Internet users to tears after she was reported to have collected leftover food from 100 wedding banquets over the past year to feed 120 stray cats, reported China Press.

The woman, known as Xuanxuan, would gatecrash a wedding reception, congratulate the bride and groom before asking their permission to collect leftover food for strays.

She would always give the couple an angpow with 100 yuan (RM58) as a gesture of respect, calling it “cats attending the wedding with an angpow”.

Most of the newlyweds would often oblige her request.

According to Xuanxuan, she is currently caring for 120 stray cats and the cost of food, medicine, vaccinations and sterilisation is around 20,000 yuan (RM11,679) a month.

As it was far beyond what her salary could support, Xuanxuan said she had to pluck up the courage to ask for leftovers.

Despite the strange looks she sometimes receives, she persists with the practice for the sake of the hungry felines at home.

After bringing the leftover food home, Xuanxuan would boil it once more to remove excess oil and salt, remove the bones and feed the strays.

Since going viral online, wedding organisers and hotels have begun contacting Xuanxuan and offering her any leftover food.
