Marine police seize smuggled diesel worth over RM230,000 in Sarawak

SIBU: Marine police seized illegal diesel worth RM230,850 during an intelligence-led operation along Jalan Pulau Dudong on Wednesday (Dec 3).

According to Region 5 Marine Police Force (PPMW5) commander, ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, the operation, under Op Taring Landai resulted in the arrest of a lorry driver and the discovery of two tanker lorries containing diesel without valid documentation.

During the first inspection at about 3.15pm, the team found a tanker lorry parked by the roadside carrying around 9,000 litres of diesel. The driver was unable to produce any documents relating to the ownership of the controlled fuel.

“Further checks in the vicinity led to the discovery of another tanker lorry in suspicious circumstances, containing roughly 10,000 litres of diesel, also without a permit or authorisation letter,” he said in a statement.

The local lorry driver was detained to assist with further investigations.

The case is now being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961 (Act 122) for the possession and transportation of controlled goods without a valid permit.

Upon completion of documentation, URM handed over the seized items and the suspect to the Domestic Trade Ministry (KPDN) Sibu for further action.

If found guilty under Section 21 of the same Act, the offender may face a fine, imprisonment, or both.
