Floods: Dozens of SPM candidates sent to exam centres via lorries in Kajang

KAJANG: Dozens of SPM candidates from SMK Abdul Jalil and SMK Dusun Nanding were transported to their examination centres on lorries on Thursday (Dec 4) after floods cut off several main roads in the area.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said a total of 85 students were successfully brought to their exam halls with assistance from various government agencies, private entities and members of the public.

“The Kajang police headquarters control centre received information about flooding at 6.18am on Thursday (Dec 4) involving Batu 20, Batu 18, Dusun Tua and Batu 14.

“The overflowing river caused several main routes to be submerged, making key roads such as Jalan Tekali, Corner Wong, Kolam Air Panas and the area in front of Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) Dusun Tua impassable to light vehicles,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Two temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened — at SRA Dusun Nanding and SK Sungai Serai, he added.

“A total of 349 victims from 87 families are currently placed at SRA Dusun Nanding, while 99 victims from 36 families are at SK Sungai Serai,” he added.

Although water levels have begun to recede, all responding agencies remain on standby. Authorities have advised residents to follow official instructions closely, especially given the unpredictable weather conditions, he said.

"Those requiring assistance or further information may contact the Kajang IPD Control Centre at 03-89114244 or 03-89114222," he added.
