A 72-year-old woman from China has captured the hearts of netizens after showcasing her impressive ability to speak fluent Malay, according to Sinar Harian.

Sun Baoping (pic), fondly known as Cikgu Fatimah, previously worked as a Malay-language lecturer at the Beijing Foreign Studies University.

In a video, the retiree shared how she learned Malay. She said her journey began 52 years ago when she unexpectedly found herself enrolled in a Malay-language programme despite initially being interviewed for German studies.

She said the language switch did not discourage her as getting into university was what mattered most at the time.
