Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes Halmahera, Indonesia


KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake measuring magnitude 6.2 struck Halmahera, Indonesia, at 10.31am on Friday (July 3).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 1.8 degrees North and 127.4 degrees East, about 116km north of Ternate, Indonesia.

According to the department, the earthquake struck at a depth of 127km.

"An initial assessment found that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia," the statement said. - Bernama
