SEREMBAN: Businessman Albert Tei claims he has been talking to the Perikatan Nasional leadership about contesting the Chennah seat in the coming Negri Sembilan state election.
"I have been made to understand they are also supportive of my intention," he said, adding that he would confirm this in due course.
Tei, speaking to the media at the state MACC office here on Friday (July 3), said he is qualified to contest because he has a local address.
"I would also like to let Anthony Loke (state DAP chief and Chennah incumbent) know that I have a Taman Seremban Jaya address.
"I am ready to fight the DAP all the way as I did during the Sabah election," he said.
On Thursday (July 2), Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said he was prepared to face any challenger in Chennah.
He said any individual was free to offer themselves as a candidate in line with the country's democratic principles and described electoral contests as a normal feature of democracy.
The Election Commission has set July 18 for nominations and Aug 1 for polling.
