PETALING JAYA: No Malaysians have been affected by a series of simultaneous violent incidents in Thailand’s southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat on Saturday night, says Wisma Putra.
It said the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok and Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla were closely monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with local authorities.
“As of the latest update, there have been no reports of Malaysian nationals affected.
“The ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates if required,” it said in a statement yesterday.
The ministry urged Malaysians in the affected provinces, as well as those planning to travel to or through Thailand’s southern border areas, to exercise caution.
Thai security forces have increased surveillance and imposed temporary curfews in affected areas following the incidents, it said.
Malaysians residing in, travelling through or intending to travel to the southern border provinces are advised to remain vigilant and strictly comply with all safety advisories, curfews and instructions issued by local authorities.
The ministry also urged Malaysians to register and regularly update their contact details through the e-Konsular portal to facilitate timely communication and consular assistance.
