Four arrested for causing disturbance at Kg Sungai Baru groundbreaking ceremony

KUALA LUMPUR: Four individuals were detained for allegedly attempting to incite unrest during the groundbreaking ceremony at Kampung Sungai Baru on Sunday (Nov 30).

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the arrests were made under Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code at about 8.50am following information regarding a planned gathering earlier that morning, believed to be aimed at sparking disorder at the event.

"The four individuals – two men and two women – aged between 39 and 47 were detained in the vicinity of Kampung Sungai Baru," he said in a statement.

Comm Fadil said the individuals had allegedly shouted and caused a disturbance during security operations at the ceremony, prompting their arrest.

He added that police believed the group was linked to calls made on social media urging the public to stage a protest at the event.

The message was allegedly circulated via a TikTok post uploaded on Nov 28 by an individual identified as Rafidah Ibrahim, titled “Majlis Pecah Tanah Kampung Sungai Baru.”

"The arrests were made as a preventive measure as the individuals were suspected to be involved in organising the gathering,” he said, adding that further investigations will be carried out in accordance with the law.
