Makeover of Ranau stretch on track

KUALA LUMPUR: The upgrading of the Kundasang-Kauluan-Pinausok road in Ranau, Sabah, is on schedule, and is expected to be completed by September 2026, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the project had reached 23% physical progress as of Aug 31.

“The project is currently under construction and is progressing according to schedule,” he said in a written parliamentary reply to Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin yesterday.

Approved in 2020 with a cost of RM48.6mil, he said the project involves upgrading an 8km stretch to JKR R2 specifications, and the construction of a bridge.

According to Ahmad Zahid, the implementing agency is the Sabah Public Works Department.

He was responding to Jonathan’s question on when the government would consider upgrading the Kundasang-Kundasang Lama-Kinaundusan-Semuruh-Pinausok route, which villagers rely on for economic activities and serves as a crucial alternative route when the main road is damaged.
