MPs to wear orange in solidarity with movement to end violence against women

KUALA LUMPUR: MPs have been encouraged to wear orange in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Nov 25) to show support for the global movement to end violence against women.

Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul reminded lawmakers that the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is commemorated annually by the United Nations on November 25.

It aims to raise awareness of the violence faced by women and girls worldwide and to galvanise collective action to eradicate it.

“To show our support for efforts to combat violence against women and girls, all MPs are encouraged to wear orange clothing or accessories, such as ribbons, during tomorrow’s sitting,” he said in the House on Monday (Nov 24).

“This is also a gesture of solidarity from the Malaysian Parliament towards the cause,” he added.

Johari also informed MPs that the revised ministry schedule for the Budget 2026 committee-stage debates, now extended until Dec 1, had been placed on their tables.
