KUALA LUMPUR: Prominent Malaysians joined the protest for Indira Gandhi’s missing daughter, Prasana Diksa, they emphasised that the issue should be seen as a matter of family, not religion.

"It’s the issue of mother and daughter. But it’s not seen as a relationship issue but rather a religious issue," said former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim

"There should be a new system in government to solve issues like this.

"Can’t the government solve the grief of a mother and the desperation of the family?" he asked.

Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, also present, said she could relate to a mother’s grief as she has children of her own.

"Prasana probably has her own phone already. I’m pretty sure she can see whatever’s going on on social media and the news.

"It’s not about religion, but it’s being weaponised. Don’t let this be an excuse to fight for justice," she said.

Former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan added that the authorities are capable of finding Prasana and her father if they truly try.

"Investigate if she is being looked after, is she going to school? Look for her.

"We have the biggest court in the land and can’t do this? The court should ask the police to provide the evidence locating where the father and daughter are," Ambiga said.

"I really hope this doesn’t go on as the request we have is not difficult," she added.
