HONG KONG actress Charmaine Sheh is rumoured to have doubled her salary to reprise her role in Queen of News 2, reported Sin Chew Daily.

According to a blogger on Weibo, Sheh is expected to receive HK$1mil (RM532,799) for the sequel, which is significantly higher than the HK$470,000 (RM250,415) she earned for the first season.

Sheh, who starred in Queen of News as a news anchor, had won best actress for her role at the TVB Anniversary Awards in 2023.

Fellow actor Samantha Ko, who won best supporting actress for her part in the same series, is also said to be seeing a 25% increase in salary from HK$280,000 (RM149,183) to HK$350,000 (RM186,479).

When the salary list came to light, Chinese social media users said that hiring actors from Hong Kong was “cost-effective” compared with their peers in the mainland.

Some even said that Hong Kong actors, who consistently deliver strong acting performance, deserved higher pay.

Queen of News is a story about the rivalry between two news anchors to become the lead of a prime-time news programme.

> A retired army veteran in China successfully drew in more than 200,000 visitors to a remote village in the Hubei province by building a floating bridge, reported China Press.

After retiring from the military, Zhang Jianwu returned home with a plan to turn his village into an ecological tourism hotspot.

Zhang and his business partners started by carving a 7.8km scenic cliffside walkway into the Dengjiaping village.

What caught the Internet’s attention was a floating bridge they built made of bamboo boards.

Running across the bridge made one look as if they were gliding across the surface of the lake.

A 15-second video of tourists attempting the challenge exploded online.

It was viewed over 230 million times and generated more than 1.2 billion clicks on related topics on Douyin, China’s equivalent of TikTok.
