KUALA LUMPUR: The Trooping of the Colours ceremony is a manifestation of the Malaysian Armed Forces’ (MAF) unwavering loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the nation.
It also symbolises the highest respect for military history and tradition.
Commander of the 12th Malaysian Infantry Brigade, Brig-Jen Mahamad Fazli Mat Idris, said the colours represent sovereignty within the armed forces and are held in the highest regard by personnel as symbols of honour, dignity and unit identity.
The ceremony, he said is traditionally held three times during the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s five-year reign – in the first, third and final years.
“That is why every member entrusted with carrying or guarding them takes immense pride in the duty,” he said during an interview on Bernama Radio’s Fokus 30 programme yesterday.
This year’s ceremony is being held in conjunction with the third year of the reign of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, following its first staging in 2024.
The ceremony, which will be held at Dataran Pahlawan Negara in Putrajaya tomorrow, will feature five Colours of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, carried by a combined contingent from the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy and Royal Malaysian Air Force.
A total of 41 officers and 635 other ranks will take part in the parade, while overall participation, including administrative and support personnel, will involve 148 officers and 1,192 other ranks.
Brig-Jen Mahamad Fazli said the colours awarded by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to MAF regiments, corps and services are not merely marks of distinction but also historical records of sacrifice, reflected through the battle honours embroidered on them.
He said the colours serve as a valuable medium for connecting the public with the history and role of the armed forces in defending the nation, in line with a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to defence.
Brig-Jen Mahamad Fazli encouraged the public to watch the live broadcast of the ceremony on RTM tomorrow to gain a deeper understanding of its significance and the time-honoured traditions associated with it.
