PUTRAJAYA: Preparations are underway for the official celebration of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s birthday, with authorities advising residents and road users to expect ceremonial cannon fire and temporary traffic diversions.
The public has been urged to be aware of the sound of cannon salutes that will be fired as part of rehearsals and ceremonial preparations for the Trooping of the Colours parade.
Putrajaya district police chief Asst Comm Aidi Sham Mohamed said the Malaysian Armed Forces will conduct a full rehearsal for the parade at Dataran Pahlawan Negara in Presint 1 on Wednesday, during which two ceremonial cannon shots will be fired beginning at 8.30am.
The actual ceremony on Friday will feature 21 cannon shots fired simultaneously, he added.
Several major roads in Putrajaya will also be temporarily closed from 7am on both days.
Affected routes include Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Lebuh Perdana Timur and roads surrounding Complex E.
ACP Aidi Sham said traffic congestion is expected between 7am and 10am, particularly around the parade venue and nearby government office complexes.
