KOTA KINABALU: Local coalition Gabungan Rakyat Sabah can achieve a simple majority to form the next state government, said Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The GRS chairman said he is confident this result can be achieved in the coming Nov 29 state polls. With GRS contesting 55 out of the 73 state seats, he said winning 40 or more was not impossible.
Hajiji, who is caretaker chief minister, said this at the ‘Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga’ GRS tour at Dataran Bagandang in Beaufort on Wednesday (Nov 19).
"This confidence is not only for the Lumadan and Klias seats here but for all the other seats we contest," he said, adding that incentives were usually provided in every constituency for outstation voters who return home to vote.
He said various incentives were provided, including for youths and flights prior to Nov 29. The GRS-state government had also provided other forms of assistance such as 'balik kampung' aid, especially during festive seasons.
"Beginning this year, we also provided assistance to tertiary students in Sabah who wish to go home for the festive seasons. We give them RM300 per person," said Hajiji, explaining that this initiative partly stemmed from a student personally contacting him for transport aid to return to his hometown several districts away.
He said the transport fee for that student was probably around RM50 and he could not afford it, further showing that many still struggle with such costs.
Also present during the gathering were GRS’ candidates for Lumadan, Datuk Ruslan Muharam, Klias candidate Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, GRS Wanita chief Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun and Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali.
