A MAN was killed by lightning after a fishing trip with his friends at the Teluk Baru Fishermen’s Jetty in Langkawi, Sinar Harian reported.

Langkawi district OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said Ishak Hashim, 57, from Kampung Berjaya was pronounced dead at Hospital Sultanah Maliha.

“The victim, who was also the boat owner, went fishing with three friends at 8am on Wednesday.

“At around 7.20pm, they returned to the jetty after their fishing trip.

“It was raining at that time and they sought shelter at the jetty,” he said in a statement.

ACP Khairul said while the victim was about to pick up the fishing rod, he was struck by lightning.

He said prior to that, the victim had time to wash the boat and perform Maghrib prayers.
