Man, 80, dies in Ipoh house fire


IPOH: An 80-year-old man was found dead after a fire destroyed his terrace house in Taman Perpaduan Ria here.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the victim was found in one of the rooms after the firefighting operation ended at about 4.20pm on Friday (Nov 14).

"The deceased was found burnt on the floor.

"After completing our investigations, we handed over the body to the police for the next course of action," he said in a statement.

Shazlean said several vehicles were also destroyed in the fire that started at about 1pm.

"There were two cars and a motorcycle that were parked in the garage area of the victim's home that were destroyed in the fire.

"A car that was parked in front of the house and another at a neighbour's house next door were also damaged due to the fire," he said.

He added that four other houses also sustained some light damage.
