KUALA LUMPUR: The government collected RM9.83bil in road tax payments between 2022 and 2024, says the Finance Ministry.
The ministry said the payments, officially known as Motor Vehicle Licence fees, are classified as non-tax revenue under the Road Transport Act 1987 and channelled into the Consolidated Fund.
It said Road Transport Department data show LKM collections over the three year period amounted to RM9.83bil.
It said this in a written reply to Salmiah Mohd Nor (PN–Temerloh) on Thursday (Nov 13).
Salmiah asked for total road tax collections from 2022 to 2024 and the import and excise duties imposed on motor vehicles and automotive components for the same period.
The ministry said import and excise duties are indirect tax revenues collected by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department under the Customs Act 1967 and Excise Act 1976.
It said these are also credited into the Consolidated Fund.
“For the period between 2022 and 2024, total collections from import and excise duties on motor vehicles amounted to RM25.15bil,” it said.
It said collections from duties on motor vehicle components totalled RM1.32bil.
“This brings the combined revenue from import and excise duties on motor vehicles and their components to RM26.47bil during the period,” it added.
