Coffee chain files police report after staff allegedly abused by customer

PETALING JAYA: ZUS Coffee has filed a police report to protect the privacy and well-being of an employee who was verbally abused and splashed with coffee by a customer in a recent viral video.

The local coffee chain said the employee involved has been given paid time-off to recover from the traumatising incident.

"The police report was lodged on Monday (Nov 10) to ensure Zurista's safety and protect her privacy. Our Zurista is still part of ZUS Coffee and is taking paid time-off to recover from the incident as her wellbeing continues to be our priority," ZUS Coffee said in a press statement on Wednesday (Nov 12).

The company said it plans to strengthen its training and support systems to build a better workplace culture in light of this incident.

ZUS Coffee also urged the public to help remove all posts and videos online that revealed the employee’s face and identity.

"This incident affects mental well-being and we kindly request for the online community to remove posts revealing any identities. Continued circulation of the video can cause real and lasting harm," it added.

Earlier on Nov 9, a video clip went viral showing a ZUS Coffee employee being shouted at aggressively by a customer who also threw her drink at the employee at one of the outlet’s locations.
