Waytha Moorthy apologises to Anwar over false statement

KUALA LUMPUR: Former minister in the prime minister's department P. Waytha Moorthy issued a public apology to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over a false statement he made at a media event on Friday (Nov 7).

In a statement on Facebook Saturday (Nov 8), Waytha admitted to wrongly claiming that Anwar had not extended the service of former Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat due to a prior ruling involving him in the Court of Appeal.

After reviewing official judicial records on Saturday morning, Waytha confirmed that Tengku Maimun was never part of the panel in any of Anwar's appeal cases.

"I take full responsibility and acknowledge that the statement was untrue and resulted from an honest mistake on my part. I sincerely apologise to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the factual error and for any misunderstanding or negative perception that may have caused," he said.

Waytha Moorthy also apologised to Tengku Maimun and others affected by the statement, and urged anyone who had recorded or shared the video to delete the relevant parts to prevent the spread of inaccurate information. - Bernama
