Over RM11mil worth of drugs seized in raid at Johor gated community

JOHOR BARU: Police have seized over RM11mil worth of drugs during a raid held at a gated and guarded residential area in Taman Bukit Indah near Iskandar Puteri here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said based on intelligence information, the state police narcotics department launched an operation on Monday (Nov 3) and Tuesday (Nov 4).

“The raid led us to arrest a 55-year-old local male suspect at a terrace house within the residential area and seized more than 115kg of various drugs at the scene.

“Initial investigation found that the suspect worked as a storekeeper at the premises, which has been converted into a store to keep and process the drugs into liquid form,” he added.

Comm Ab Rahaman said this in a press conference held at Johor police headquarters here on Wednesday (Nov 5).

He added among the drugs seized were 25.2kg of ecstasy pills, 23.1kg of syabu, 22.4kg of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 13.4kg of ketamine, 11.5kg of ecstasy powder, 19.4kg of eramine 5 pills and various tools to process the drugs.

“The drugs that have been seized are able to feed the addiction of 446,333 individuals. We believe that this syndicate, which has been active since July, have been getting their supply locally.

“Police are in the midst of tracking down other members of this syndicate,” he said, adding that the suspect tested negative for drugs but have other prior records including traffic offences.

Comm Ab Rahaman said the suspect was under remand until Nov 10 to assist with the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
