Additional RM5mil allocated for CCTV installation in 333 schools, says Deputy Education Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: An additional RM5mil has been allocated for CCTV installation in 333 schools nationwide, said Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh (pic).

He said the funds are on top of RM3mil previously allocated for similar efforts.

Wong said the selection is based on identified needs, not only high-risk categories.

“As for how these schools were chosen, we held discussions on it. It is not just those considered high risk, but also those identified as being in need,” he added.

He was winding up the Education Ministry’s debate on the Supply Bill 2026 in Parliament on Monday (Oct 3).

“So far, the initial RM3mil allocation implemented in October is expected to be completed by November 14. Meanwhile, the additional RM5mil will be rolled out and implemented accordingly,” he added.

On Oct 22, the Education Ministry announced 11 additional measures to enhance safety and address discipline across its institutions.

On Oct 17, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged schools and parents to fully cooperate on bullying issues.

He said administrators should not protect perpetrators to preserve a school’s image.

Anwar said attempts to cover up bullying as minor or not serious will worsen the problem later.
