Perak JPJ raises over RM60K from auction of seized vehicles

IPOH: The Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has collected RM60,750 from auctioning off 50 confiscated vehicles.

State JPJ director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan said the public auction included 40 licensable vehicles: 32 motorcycles, three cars, two vans, two multi-utility vehicles (MUVs) and a lorry.

It also featured 10 unlicensed vehicles – eight motorcycles, one lorry and one MUV – and two cloned vehicles.

"The highest bid was for RM11,000, while the lowest bids, at RM50 each, were for three motorcycles that were sold as scrap," Yusoff told a press conference here on Tuesday (Oct 28).

Yusoff said the lowest reserve price for the auction was RM50 for unlicensed motorcycles, while the highest reserve price was RM8,800 for a rigid waste lorry. There were 76 bidders in total.

He added that JPJ holds public auctions twice a year, as it typically takes around six months to process the seized vehicles for auction.

"We also held an auction in February with 59 vehicles, compared to 50 this month.

"The process begins with a notice to the registered owner.

"If they fail to respond, we proceed to verify with the bank or relevant credit institutions.

"The matter is then brought to court, after which the vehicle is officially listed for auction," he said.

He added that the total amount collected from this month's auction, including 100 copies of public auction books, came to RM66,070.

He also said that between June and October, Perak JPJ seized 31 luxury cars under Ops Luxury.

He added that the vehicle owners concerned can claim their seized vehicles by settling all outstanding summonses, road tax and insurance payments.
