But the kid is not my son: S'wak couple fined for false report on baby's birth

KUCHING: A local man and woman have been fined RM1,250 each for lodging a false police report regarding the birth of a child.

The report was made to facilitate an application to register the birth with the National Registration Department, police said.

Serian OCPD Supt Freddy Bian said the couple pleaded guilty in a Kuching Magistrate's Court on Monday (Oct 27).

They were charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to a public servant.

According to the facts of the case, the man lodged a false police report claiming that his wife, the second accused, had given birth to a child with the assistance of a village midwife.

"Our investigations revealed that the report was untrue.

"A DNA comparison later confirmed that the baby was not the biological child of the male accused," Supt Freddy said in a statement late Monday.

He said both accused admitted making a false report and were sentenced accordingly by the court.

Supt Freddy reminded the public not to misuse police services or lodge false reports for personal gain.

"We will not hesitate to take stern action against anyone found guilty of making false reports. Such actions waste police resources and disrupt genuine investigations," he said.
