KUALA LUMPUR: United States President Donald Trump has called Malaysia a "great and very vibrant country," after his two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur for the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits.

"Just leaving Malaysia, a great and very vibrant Country. Signed major Trade and Rare Earth Deals, and yesterday (Oct 26), most importantly, signed the Peace Treaty between Thailand and Cambodia," he said on his Truth Social platform on Monday (Oct 27).

"NO WAR! Millions of lives saved. Such an honour to have gotten this done. Now, off to Japan!!!," he said.

Trump reportedly departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on his Air Force One aircraft at 10.06am on Monday (Oct 27).

Trump will also be travelling to Japan and South Korea as part of his Asia visit. He will also be attending the APEC Summit.

Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet on Thursday on the sidelines of the APEC summit in South Korea.

All eyes will be on the anticipated meeting as this would be the first time the two leaders would meet since 2019.

The development has also raised hopes that a deal will be struck to de-escalate the trade war.

US and Chinese top officials who met in Kuala Lumpur for trade talks have indicated that progress has been made for a deal.
