KUALA LUMPUR: More than 100 suggestions were offered to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry during its Budget 2027 engagement session at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Aug 14).
About 100 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and representatives participated in the session, with each given around two minutes to present ideas and requests.
Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Deputy Minister Lim Hui Yin and deputy secretary-general (Strategic) Mohd Daud Mohd Arif attended the session to record feedback and discuss how to incorporate the proposals into budget planning.
In her opening speech, Nancy said the engagement session aimed to hear directly from ground representatives to ensure priorities are accurately addressed.
“We cannot feel what people feel, so we may sometimes assume that what is needed is simply something that should be included in the budget.
“But whether it is truly a priority need can only be determined by listening to those on the ground. We believe it is important for all suggestions to be presented so they can be considered together,” she said.
Nancy noted that 30 proposals from NGOs had already been submitted to the ministry prior to the session.
She explained that while the ministry gathers feedback, challenges remain in assessing suitability and determining allocation distribution among organisations.
“The important thing is that we continue working together. Apart from the existing budget, we can also explore other avenues, including federal assistance allocations,” she added.
Nancy affirmed that the ministry will do its utmost to align funding and policies with the actual needs of participating organisations.
