MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for multiple states until 4pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories until 4pm on Wednesday (Oct 22).

In Perlis, residents are advised to remain vigilant as severe weather is expected.

In Kedah, Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu may see thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

Penang is included in the warning, with adverse weather expected statewide.

In Perak, Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak are likely to be affected.

In Terengganu, Kemaman is under alert for thunderstorms and heavy rain and in Pahang, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin are expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Sarawak, Limbang is covered by the warning and should prepare for severe weather.

In Sabah, interior districts Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort and Keningau are included, as well as Papar on the West Coast, Tawau and Kudat including Pitas.

MetMalaysia issues warnings when rainfall intensity exceeds 20mm per hour or is expected to persist for more than an hour.

These warnings are short term and valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
