Thunderstorm warning issued for Sarawak and Sabah


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in several divisions in Sarawak and Sabah, with warnings in effect until 3pm on Tuesday (Oct 21).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected areas were in Sarawak and Sabah.

In Sarawak, the divisions of Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Limbang are on alert for severe weather.

In Kuching division, the district of Kuching is expected to be affected.

In Sabah, the Interior and West Coast divisions are under the warning.

In the Interior division, areas such as Sipitang, Tenom and Beaufort are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

In the West Coast division, districts including Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud are anticipated to experience severe weather conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
