Thunderstorm warning issued for eight states as well as KL and Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across eight states as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, with warnings in effect until 9am on Monday (Oct 20).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

Perlis is on alert for severe weather.

In Kedah, the districts of Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Yan and Kuala Muda are under the warning.

Penang is also expected to experience adverse conditions.

In Perak, areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak are forecasted to be affected.

In Selangor, districts including Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang are anticipated to experience severe weather conditions, along with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

In Negeri Sembilan, areas such as Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau are expected to be affected.

Melaka is also under the warning.

In Johor, districts including Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Baru are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
