IPOH: Police have dismantled a vehicle theft syndicate targeting four-wheel-drive vehicles across Perak and Kuala Lumpur following the arrest of a man and two women.
Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said a team from the Manjung district police headquarters picked up the trio at around 5.30pm on Oct 27, following intelligence gathering and surveillance.
The arrests stemmed from an Oct 26 report lodged by a victim whose Toyota Hilux was stolen from Taman Mas 2 in Sitiawan.
“During the operation, police seized a key programming device believed to have been used in the thefts, along with several other items,” ACP Hasbullah said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 31).
“Interrogations revealed that the suspects admitted to eight vehicle theft cases, four in Perak and four in Kuala Lumpur, all employing the same modus operandi targeting 4WD vehicles.”
The three suspects have been remanded until Nov 2 to assist in investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
