MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan’s Paya Rumput candidate Datuk Seri Azman Abidin (pic) is banking on his experience as political secretary to the Prime Minister and ties with the Federal Government to address electorates’ needs.

He said those connections would help him serve the semi-urban constituency, which also encompasses villages with differing needs

“What I can offer is my position and experience serving the Prime Minister to help make it easier to meet the needs of Paya Rumput residents.

“I will make the best use of those connections for the benefit of voters and residents in Paya Rumput,” he told reporters after submitting his nomination papers at Stadium Hang Jebat in Krubong here on Saturday (Oct 31).

Azman said the response from residents had been encouraging so far, although he would continue to gauge voter sentiment throughout the campaign.

He said residents appeared more open to change, noting that many worked in urban areas.

Asked about the contest following the Barisan Nasional incumbent Datuk Rais's move to Sungai Udang, Azman said every candidate had strengths and none should be underestimated.

“Whoever the candidates are, they each have different strengths.

“I have to work hard to reach as many voters in Paya Rumput as possible so they can get to know me and what I can offer them,” he said.

Azman also said Melaka Pakatan was expected to launch its state election manifesto within the next day or two.

He said the coalition would campaign responsibly, focusing on its achievements and plans for the people.

“We will convey what we have done and what we intend to do.

“We hope the election campaign in Melaka will proceed smoothly, peacefully and in an orderly manner,” he added.
