TANJUNG BIDARA: Barisan Nasional component parties must work together to win the seats allocated to them in the Melaka state election, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“We will work hard to ensure that every seat we contest is won or, at the very least, to reduce their majority in seats that we lost before,” the Barisan chairman told reporters after accompanying Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to file his nomination papers for the Tanjung Bidara state seat on Saturday (Oct 31).
Ahmad Zahid said cooperation among the coalition’s component parties was key, pointing to MCA’s allocation of four seats as an example of Barisan’s unity ahead of the polls.
He dismissed speculation that MCA would boycott the election or was dissatisfied with the outcome of seat negotiations.
“Many expected MCA to boycott the Melaka state election but that did not happen. Instead, MCA has been given four seats,” he said.
MCA is defending Machap Jaya and Kelebang, and was allocated Kota Laksamana and Bandar Hilir following negotiations that concluded on Friday (Oct 30).
Ahmad Zahid said MCA would contest in Kota Laksamana and other urban areas, adding that the party had been given the opportunity to make inroads in those constituencies.
He said Barisan would ultimately leave it to Melaka voters.
