Thunderstorm warning issued for Perak and Sarawak


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Perak and several divisions in Sarawak, with warnings in effect until 9am on Tuesday (Oct 21).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected areas were in Perak and Sarawak.

In Perak, areas such as Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak are on alert for severe weather.

In Sarawak, the divisions of Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit and Bintulu are under the warning.

In Betong, districts including Saratok and Kabong are expected to be affected.

In Sarikei, areas such as Sarikei and Meradong are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.

In Sibu, districts including Kanowit and Selangau are anticipated to be affected.

In Mukah, areas such as Tanjung Manis, Dalat and Mukah are expected to experience severe weather conditions.

Kapit and Bintulu are also under the warning.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
