Mother and daughter likely hacked on back of necks, autopsy finds


BUTTERWORTH: A pathologist says that Sariya Che Hin, 51, and her daughter, Nur Afrina Alisha Abdul Rahim, 11, died of neck injuries caused by a sharp weapon believed to be a cleaver.

Penang Hospital consulting pathologist Datuk Dr Zahari Noor said post-mortem examinations on both victims confirmed that their deaths were caused by severe injuries to the back of the neck.

"Checks also found injury patterns on both victims were similar and the attacks occurred around the same time," he told reporters when met at Seberang Jaya Hospital's forensics unit here on Sunday (Oct 19).

He said detailed findings based on the pattern of injuries found it was more consistent with a cleaver and not a knife.

Besides the neck injuries, other wounds were found on the victims, showing that they tried to defend themselves.

Both victims were found dead by the victim's husband, 57, when he returned to their home in Kampung Sekolah Juru at about 7.30pm on Saturday (Oct 18).

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the husband has been remanded for seven days till Oct 25.

The post-mortem examinations on both the mother and daughter was completed at 4.30pm on Sunday and their remains were claimed by their next of kin for burial at the Masjid Jeneri Muslim Cemetery in Jeneri, Sik, Kedah. – Bernama
