Principal apologises to parents after fatal stabbing, fights back tears

PETALING JAYA: A secondary school principal fought back tears as she apologised to parents after the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old student.

In a video of a meeting with parents and the school administration circulating on TikTok, the principal expressed regret and pledged responsibility.

“Nobody wanted this to happen. On behalf of the school, I sincerely apologise for what has happened. The school welcomes feedback from parents to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment,” she said.

“If parents have any suggestions for appropriate action, we will take it, so our children can study in comfort and safety,” she added.

The principal acknowledged the challenge of managing a large student population but said staff remain committed.

“It is not easy to administer a school with 1,197 students, but we try to do our best. Please understand our situation, as we too are deeply affected,” she added.

Her remarks came amid public grief and concern over the killing on school premises earlier this week.

On Tuesday (Oct 14), Form Three student Yap Shing Xuen, 16, was found dead with multiple stab wounds at about 9.30am.

Police said a 14-year-old schoolmate was arrested and remanded for seven days to assist investigations.
