Selangor Government to hold meetings with parents, teachers, students of SMK Bandar Utama 4

KLANG: The Selangor state government will hold meetings with parents, teachers and students of SMK Bandar Utama 4, says Selangor mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that the decision to do so was made at the state executive council meeting yesterday and was aimed at addressing various issues following the murder of a 16-year-old student by her 14-year-old schoolmate.

“The meeting is to remember the student who lost her life, restore parents’, teachers’ and children’s confidence towards the level of safety at the school and for recovery from the trauma,’’ said Amirudin in a statement.

He added that the meeting was also to initiate swift measures such as registering students at the school, the use of metal detectors and CCTVs, as well as having a smart notification system covering parents and school teachers.

According to Amirudin, the process to initiate the proposed measures will involve discussions with parents as well as encompass the district education department, the Selangor Education Department, the Education Ministry, the police, as well as the school’s Parent-Teacher Association.

“This is because incidents like this should never be allowed to happen again and schools must once again become the safest places for our children,’’ said the mentri besar.

Amirudin noted the tragedy had traumatised other students, especially those who had witnessed the incident.

“It has resulted in students’ attendance at the school decreasing in the last two to three days,’’ he added.

On another matter, Amirudin said the state government will allocate RM1mil for free Influenza A vaccines covering 12,500 students from the Hulu Langat, Gombak, Klang and Petaling districts.

“It will start as early as next week and the implementation will be headed by state public health exco YB Jamaliah Jamaluddin,’’ he added.

An eight-year-old special needs student from Meru, Klang was reported to have succumbed to Influenza A infection yesterday.
