Cops record 127 statements in connection to BU school stabbing

PETALING JAYA: The police have recorded the statements of 127 individuals in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen at SMK Bandar Utama 4.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the statements of the witnesses are essential in assisting the police in investigating the tragedy.

"So far, we have recorded statements from 127 witnesses to assist investigations,” he said when contacted on Friday (Oct 17).

Among those questioned were students, teachers, school staff, counsellors, and the families of both the victim and the suspect.

"Additional witnesses will be called if more individuals are identified as being able to assist in the probe,” he added.

He said the police are still awaiting the complete post-mortem report before confirming the exact number of stab wounds sustained by the victim.

On Thursday (Oct 16), the victim’s mother, Wong Lee Ping, claimed that her daughter had suffered about 200 stab wounds, and urged the public to refrain from spreading false information or rumours about the case.

The police have yet to verify the exact figure pending the final forensic findings.
