CHUKAI: Three Myanmar refugees working as construction and cleaning workers were detained in connection with an alleged sexual offence involving an intellectually disabled woman in the district.
Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Mohd Rosli said the three men, aged between 19 and 28, were arrested after police received a report from a 20-year-old woman on Friday.
“All three suspects have been remanded from Aug 8 to 12 to assist in the investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing to identify other suspects who may be involved,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
Supt Mohd Razi said police needed to fine-tune the investigation and give sufficient space and time to the 23-year-old victim before completing the probe, taking into consideration that she is intellectually disabled.
Members of the public with information on the case can contact any nearby police station or call 09-859 2222 to reach the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Hadaza Mat Amin.
