Barisan to leave 40% Sabah revenue claim to PM and Cabinet

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional will leave it to the Prime Minister to bring the matter of the 40% net revenue owed to Sabah to the Cabinet meeting, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan chairman said while they respected the decision made by the Court on this claim, the implementation would have to be left to the Prime Minister (PM) to handle.

"Officially, we respect the decision of the Court and of course, party-wise, we are together with the voice of the people of Sabah," he said.

"On the government level, of course, we have to analyse the decision in terms of rationality and financial ability. However, we will leave it to the PM to bring this matter to the Cabinet meeting for discussions," said Zahid after an event here, Saturday (Oct 18).

Asked how Barisan can help Sabah realise the claims to its 40% net revenue owed, if it won the Nov 29 state election here, he said the party will have to look at this from its party manifesto and Aku Janji policies.

"The manifesto and Aku Janji will be our basis to deliver to the people. What matters is for Sabah to become a developed state," he said.

Zahid said issues on infrastructure and basic amenities such as water and electricity supply must be solved within a term, whereas other aspects can be looked at and decided upon accordingly.

"I am almost certain that there will be no party or a single coalition that can form the next state government dominantly; there will have to be sharing of political powers," he said.

When that time comes, it is not only a manifesto but other matters which have to be taken into account to ensure that Sabah and its people continue to develop and enjoy prosperity.

"This will be the main focus of the next government which will be formed," Zahid said.
