MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning across the country until 6pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories until 6pm on Thursday (Oct 16).

Residents in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Melaka are advised to remain alert for severe weather.

In Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman) and Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat), adverse conditions, including thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds, are expected.

The warning also applied to parts of Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru), Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei, Meradong, Sibu, Mukah, Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu) and Sabah (Pedalaman, Beaufort, Pantai Barat, Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kudat and Kota Marudu).

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when rainfall intensity exceeds 20mm per hour or is expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings and are valid for up to six hours from issuance.
