MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for most states until 5pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories until 5pm on Thursday (Oct 16).

Residents in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, and Johor are advised to remain alert for severe weather, including thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

In Perak, Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim districts are forecast to be affected by adverse conditions.

The warning also applied to parts of Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman), and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh and Kuantan)

Areas of Negri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau) and Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Song, Kapit and Bintulu) were also affected.

Thunderstorms were also expected to occur in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when rainfall intensity exceeds 20mm per hour or is expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings and are valid for up to six hours from issuance.
