PUTRAJAYA: The recent fatal school stabbing incident and the use of social media among children and teenagers will be discussed at the Cabinet soon, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said he would raise the matter at the Cabinet meeting to discuss safety and disciplinary issues in schools, including the use of smartphones among students.

“We will have a meeting to come up with sterner action,” he told reporters at the Finance Ministry lobby yesterday.

Anwar said the government must look at the issue as a whole and take firm action on the use of smartphones and social media applications, especially among children and teenagers.

“We must be firm on this matter. We cannot let this issue prolong as almost all of it points back to the influence of social media,” he added.

Anwar was commenting on the fatal stabbing of a Form Four student at a school in Bandar Utama on Tuesday.

It was reported that a 14-year-old male student had been detained for allegedly attacking and stabbing the 16-year-old female victim near the girls’ toilet.

Police also seized two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack.
