PETALING JAYA: Four areas in Malaysia recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9am Thursday (Aug 27), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
In Sarawak, three areas breached the unhealthy threshold, with Samarahan recording the highest reading nationwide at 164, followed by IPD Serian (162), and Sri Aman (155).
Outside Sarawak, only the monitoring station in Cheras, under the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, recorded an unhealthy level of 117.
Meanwhile, the APIMS recorded two areas with good air quality - Kota Baru, Kelantan (46) and Langkawi, Kedah (43) - while the remaining 61 monitoring stations recorded moderate API readings.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
