Beluran estate worker killed after falling into machinery

KOTA KINABALU: An estate worker was killed when he fell into a conveyor grinding machine at a palm oil mill in the Beluran district.

The victim, identified as Bloren Juplish, 32, was believed to be carrying out some work at the machine, when he noticed something falling into the belt and causing it to get stuck.

It is learnt that Bloren had then tried to pry the object out but slipped and fell into the grinding belt, causing him to sustain severe head and bodily injuries.

His workmates who saw the incident quickly switched off the machine before getting him out.

Beluran fire and rescue station chief Edoen Macheal said they received an emergency call at around 6.20am, Wednesday (Oct 15), and a team was sent to respond.

“When our team arrived, the victim had already been taken out of the machine with the assistance of police at the scene and we helped to carry the body to the ambulance,” he said in a statement.

He said the victim was taken to the Beluran Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Edoen said their operations on site ended at 9.32am. No other casualties were reported.
