Party problems: Wan Saiful (left) and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal.
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal have hit out over the “unfair” action against them by Bersatu, saying the move was biased.
Despite the disciplinary action, Wan Saiful, who is Tasek Gelugor MP and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal remain defiant, saying that they will not back down and will not admit defeat.
Wan Saiful, who has been sacked by the party questioned “the swiftness” in disciplinary proceedings against him.
He said a complaint was lodged against him on Sept 18 and he received a notice to appear before the disciplinary board on Sept 21.
“The hearing was held on Sept 25, but the complainant was not present,” he said.
Wan Saiful also questioned why his report against Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has yet to be looked into.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who was suspended, also questioned the composition of the party’s disciplinary board, claiming that two of them have family and professional links to the party’s leadership.
“There can be conflict of interest and they are open to bias. We demand that the two recuse themselves,” he said.
The Machang MP also claimed his suspension was done against natural justice.
“I question the wisdom of this rushed decision. It is an injustice.
“We will not admit defeat and will soldier on. We were given the mandate by the people as MPs,” he told a press conference in Parliament.
Bersatu had sacked Wan Saiful for violating the party’s code of conduct while Wan Ahmad Fayhsal had his membership suspended for one term, or four years.
The suspension and sacking came amid talk that the group was involved in a movement collecting statutory declarations aimed at toppling Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as party president.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said he and Wan Saiful would continue efforts to bring Bersatu back to its original struggle.
“We have received messages from MPs from both sides of the divide expressing their support. We are not alone,” the Machang MP added.
Asked where they would be sitting in Dewan Rakyat as they are now deemed independent MPs, Wan Saiful said this would be decided by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
