Strict action, zero tolerance for sexual misconduct in schools, says Fadhlina

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will not compromise on any sexual misconduct in all educational institutions under its management, says minister Fadhlina Sidek.

"The strictest action must be taken against the offenders. No one will be protected," she said in a statement on Facebook.

Fadhlina said the case of sexual misconduct that happened in a school in Melaka recently was very regrettable.

She also ordered the school, the district education office, and the state education department to provide full cooperation to the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the ministry stated on Saturday (Oct 11) that the police have remanded all the suspects in the case.

The ministry also instructed all educational institution administrators to comply with the Sexual Misconduct Management Guidelines currently in use and to ensure the safety of students, teachers and all members of the educational institution.

The Melaka police chief Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, earlier said that four Form 5 male students suspected of committing sexual offences against a Form 3 female student at a school in Alor Gajah on Oct 2 were remanded for six days to assist with the investigation.

He said the 17-year-old Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates were remanded until Oct 16, and that the case was being investigated in accordance with Section 375B of the Penal Code. – Bernama
