Perak police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin.
IPOH: About RM12.9mil worth of drugs were seized by police following a 2km car chase at KM375 southbound of the North-South Expressway near Slim River.
Perak OCPD Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the drugs were found in the backseat and trunk of the suspect's car, and were packed to resemble health or beauty products.
Comm Noor Hisam said before the chase, a highway mobile patrol unit from Bukit Aman police's traffic investigation and enforcement department had tried to stop the car on Monday (Oct 6) at about 1.30pm.
“Upon being signalled to stop along the highway, the car with two suspects sped off, triggering the car chase.
"The vehicle eventually came to a halt and the suspects managed to escape into the forest.
"Inspections conducted found 15 gunny sacks believed to contain about 374kg of methamphetamine and one black plastic bag containing what is believed to be about 11.281kg of heroin," he said in a press conference on Wednesday.
“The drugs were not concealed but rather packed to resemble commercial products, possibly to deceive the police and the public," he added.
Comm Noor Hisam said the drugs are believed to be meant for distribution in the Klang Valley.
"The drugs could be supplied to about 3.7 million drug addicts.
"Efforts to locate the suspects are still ongoing," he said.
“We also found that the car was not stolen and is registered to a woman, who will be called in to help with the investigation.
