Bus ferrying 34 students rear-ends lorry near Kuala Krai, no injuries reported

KUALA KRAI: A tour bus ferrying 34 students and six teachers collided into the rear of a lorry at KM63 Jalan Kota Bharu–Gua Musang, near Eco Park, on Wednesday (Oct 8), Sinar Harian reports.

Fortunately, all passengers, including the driver, were unharmed, the Malay language daily reported.

Kuala Krai OCPD Supt Mazlan Mamat said police received a report about the incident at 9am.

"Initial investigations revealed that the bus, carrying students and teachers from SM Sri Gunong, Bachok, was en route to Cameron Highlands.

"Upon reaching the location, the bus collided into the rear of a lorry driven by a 42-year-old man," he said in a statement Wednesday.

He explained that the collision is believed to have occurred when the lorry braked, and the bus failed to maintain a safe distance, resulting in the crash.

He added that both vehicles sustained damage due to the collision.

Supt Mazlan also said that the case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"Those with information related to this incident are urged to assist in the investigation by contacting 09-966 6222 or visiting the Kuala Krai district police headquarters traffic division," he said.
