Four houses damaged in early morning fire in Pasir Puteh

IPOH: Four double-storey terrace houses were damaged in an early morning fire at Lorong Kledang Utara 13, Taman Kledang Suria, Pasir Puteh, on Thursday (June 11).

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said they received an emergency call about the fire at 5.20am. They dispatched firefighters from the Pasir Puteh and Meru Raya fire stations, assisted by the Menglembu Volunteer Fire Brigade.

He said upon arriving at the scene at 5.33am, firefighters found the blaze raging at house  No 72. No casualties or injuries were reported.

“House No 72 sustained the most severe damage, with about 80% of the structure destroyed.

“The other three houses suffered between 2% and 30% damage, mainly due to heat exposure and soot,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the fire spread rapidly because the house contained a large quantity of recyclable materials that were highly flammable.

“Firefighters carried out extinguishing works using hose lines supplied by water from fire engines and a nearby hydrant.

“The blaze was brought under control at 6.36am before being completely extinguished at 8.40am,” he added.

He said 25 personnel took part in the operation, involving assets including fire engines, an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle and a utility van.
